Meh.

Most first round picks are gambles.

There's no reason to not gamble on one position.

If the Broncos like a guy, they may as well take a shot.

If things fall apart, I'll blame them as much for bottom feeding as I would for a first round bust...

The ugly truth: it has to work out; otherwise, the Broncos will eventually fire the GM and coaches.

ahh... Of course it's a gamble with any position. I'll bet there have been more bust with the qb position than with any other.

Any draft pick is a gamble, but there are three things you can do to improve the chances that it will work out.

1. He needs to be the right fit for the system you want to run. Obviously, you don't draft a guy better suited to run a 3-4 defense when you want to run a 4-3. Less obvious is whether a QB can run the offense you want to run... there is a difference between college and pro offenses.

2. He needs to have good work ethic and a good attitude. Poor work ethics and attitudes don't cut it in the NFL. See Leaf, Ryan.

3. He needs to stay healthy. That's actually pretty obvious... which is why players who are injury prone in college are players teams are more cautious about drafting.
