Cutler to the Browns?
March 2nd, 2009 by Harkov | Filed under Broncos, Rumors.Just when we thought the whole Jay Cutler fiasco had lost a little steam, we just came up with this little nugget of joy. As reported by numerous media outlets, Jay Cutler is upset with the Broncos organization and wants out of town.
“I’m upset,” Jay Cutler told The Denver Post. “I mean, I’m really shocked at this point.”
Despite continued denials from the Broncos front office, Cutler and his agent are refusing to talk to McDaniels and company.
“If they were in fact trying to trade Jay Cutler, then I think that’s a situation that’s going to cause a very serious problem for the organization,” says James Cook, Cutler’s agent.
Well, ok, let’s say the Broncos really are shopping Jay Cutler. The deal with Cassel is moot at this point, the Broncos must be looking for new suitors. We understand that the Browns have an attractive option in place. Some Broncos fans will probably ‘freak’ when they hear such a ludicrous suggestion, but hey, were you any more shocked by Shanahan getting fired or Portis being traded?
Our source tells us the players involved are: Brady Quinn and Shaun Rogers for Jay Cutler and the Broncos 3rd round draft pick.
I thought, absolutely no way when I first heard this, but, it makes sense on some level. The Broncos want to put a 3-4 defense in place in 2009, but have a huge hole in the middle of that scheme. There are no real NTs available in free agency, and the top name in the draft (BJ Raji) will most likely be gone at pick #12. Shaun Rogers has asked for his release or trade, wanting nothing to do with the Browns. Perfect match there, at least for the next couple years. Given that McDaniels and Xanders have gone after veteran defensive talent thus far (Dawkins,Goodman, etc) it makes sense on that level as well.
Now, Brady Quinn? We have heard that Mangini is not thrilled with the prospect of using Quinn. We have also heard that he covets a gun slinging, cannon armed QB to run his offense (a younger Favre), who wouldn’t really? McDaniels and Xanders recently watched a lot of tape of this past season, and no doubt poured over Quinn’s dismantling of the Bronco defense. They probably saw some of the same characteristics they saw in Cassel, decent arm (can make most throws), intelligent decisions, good pocket mobility. Again, our initial reaction was complete shock…but looking at it analytically, it kind of makes sense.
It is still early in the process, but expect to hear more about this in the weeks leading up to the draft. Keep an eye on Cutler’s relationship with the front office. If it continues down this road…keep a real close eye on BJ Raji in the Draft. If he is selected before #12….

helllll nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
This would be like Atl trading Favre to the Packers.
Can you expand a little bit on your “source” (without naming him, of course.”
Works for one of the teams? Close to one of the players? Etc.
Would be incredible if this trade went through.
remember the last trade with Cleveland ? bronco fans had COURTNEY BROWN and GERARD WARREN elected to the hall of fame.how did that work out for you guys?

Why would the Broncos give up a 3rd round draft choice? I would expect it would be the other way around or perhaps the Broncos receiving a first or second draft choice. Trade rumor smells bogus to me ~

Seriously a source? You have to put some validity to your post, this coming from a fellow Bronco blogger. I could say that a source told me the Chiefs offered Matt Cassel to Denver for their 12th overall pick of the 2009 draft and people would believe it. Please don’t explode this Cutler situation anymore that than necessary if you don’t have bona fide proof. Don’t lose your soul, you’re already cited on PFT, the devil of all sports websites.
Anyone want to trade McDoogle?
Completely irresponsible “reporting”. As a Browns fan, I don’t appreciate this at all. You have no source, play time is over.
You’re citing him on PFT, calling it the devil of all sports websites. Well, obviously you surf the site, or you wouldn’t have seen it posted.
good trade for cleveland. they should trade anderson then
PERFECT!!! PERFECT!!!! HA HA HA AH HA HA
Ummm…that’s ok - just keep him. We have enough head cases on our team. (then again, he would fit right in).
I would still like to see what kind of QB Quinn is gonna be… but as a BRowns fan, I say make the trade. I like how Mangini has no patience for head cases,(Rogers) and how can you not respect the way Cutler carved up the Browns last year , for like what, 500 yards?
I’m sure it’s just a “rumor” now. Hell, if you asked me a week ago if this was real, I wouldn’t have believed it, but if the Broncos were willing to trade Cutler for an overrated Matt Cassel than anything is possible. Remember the crappy Denver defense sack Cassel’s non-mobile a$$ 6 times in their loss to New England (That’s a 5-game total typically for Denver). I love that Cassel went to KC because I think Tyler Thigpen is a better QB than Cassel (Thigpen put up better numbers than Cutler and Rivers the last 6-7 games of the season).
I just hate that these freaking Boston pieces of crap are operating some fraternity thinking that New England won Super Bowls based on the players’ talent. It was all Bellicheat. Parcells has not won a playoff game without Bellicheat and no Bellicheat assistant has ever done anything on his own. I believe New England has above average talent at best, but as much as you might hate the guy Bellicheat is the best coach in the history of the league.
I don’t think we should trade Cutler. As unprofessional as Cutler may be acting…Josh McDaniels is the frat boy here that is just living off of his New England connections. Former New England defensive coordinator and former Browns head coach Romeo Cornell drafted that sorry sack, no arm-strength, pretty boy piece of overrated garbage out of Notre Dame.
God, I hate Boston…the Red Sox, the city itself that was obviously designed by a bunch of drunks fueled by over-rated Irish beer, the snarled mouth women who have developed catcher’s mitt faces by the time they are teenagers because of always carrying around a winey expression like they have been force-fed a pile of dung, and the fact there is no history there other than the Boston Tea Party and a stairwell with a “Cheers” sign (the bar doesn’t exist).
FIRE JOSH MCDANIELS!
I am a die hard bronco fan, who honestly felt that Jake Plummer should stay at the helm for at least the previous season and groom Culter, but all respect Cutler impress me and i believe that he is the next John Elway, i pissed about Mike! If this young billick kid don’t get his mind right, it may be the end of life time relationship. What is he think???? Matt Cassel is a joke he was in NE with tom Brady team, man even my high school son can win there.
Just think i live in florida and have 3 teams to chose from!! After 25 years and having to change favor team, **** my son is a bronco fan, even Big Ben wear the #7 because of John Elway, you guy need to kiss up Cutler, you damn idoits!!!! Pat should have talk with mike and change up some dutie but just trade JC and 4 and 12 and see how long you be there.. We have defense problems not offense.
I can’t believe Josh won’t man up and admit he considered the offer with Tampa and NE. I think Jay has a right to be hurt, but he needs to grow up as well. Jay is a great QB with a spectacular future ahead. I hope he can grow up and meet with Denver brass to clear the air. That would be the best move for all parties.
allan ur a fn moron why the hell would the browns give u a 1 or 2nd and bq and rogers for cutler ur just retarted
I just can’t believe this. Why would anyone trade Cutler? This is mad. A newbie coach that has done nothing for us is going to send Cutler packing for Cassle or Quinn? Way to dismantle the team. I can see it now, McDaniels is going to be in Denver for 2 years and leave us with some weak arm, mediocre run of the mill quarterback for years to come. We waited years after Elway to get a franchise QB again.
I don’t care what McDaniels says – he tried to trade Cutler and everyone knows it. Now fans of other teams that need a quarterback can smell blood in the water… Is it too late to get a good coach?
Keep dreaming Denver!
Makes sense on some level? What level is that? In what parallel universe does a pro bowl QB AND a 3rd round pick for a mid-level DT talent and a very iffy QB prospect make sense? Cutler is a star, and he’s under contract. If the Broncos are smart enough to keep their heads down, this will blow over.
This is easily the single dumbest thing i have ever heard. For one now that Cassel is no longer availible there is no way Cutler will be traded. Eric Mangini wants nothing to do with a cannon arm QB with no brains. Brett Favre was forced on him and now every one thinks he is manginis perfect idea of a QB. Brady Quinn is the perfect fit in the new scheme, wich will be very similar to what Weiss ran at ND. Lastly Rogers is just biching so he can get a bigger contract similar to haynesworths. This trade would not work out for either side.
[...] Brady Quinn to be traded……? Cutler to the Browns? [...]
You know that the Cassel situation not only had to have McDaniels blessing but it almost certainly had Pat Bowlen’s approval as well. Those sort of 3 team trade discussions don’t just happen without substantial discussion involving all 3 teams at all levels.
It would be great if Cutler would just suck it up and stay in Denver but I wouldn’t be surprised if he was gone before training camp started. He is an emotional guy. You can see it in the way he plays. He makes the same kind of boneheaded emotional mistakes in “crunch time” that Jake used to make. I personally don’t see much difference between Jake and Jay. They can both put up great numbers and then throw the game away with some stupid pick that they never should have thrown. Jay is young and may yet become the second coming of Elway but from what I see so far he is a great passer with too much confidence in his own arm. If he grows up he will forgive management and stay in Denver if he doesn’t he and his emotional interceptions will go elsewhere. In any case he won’t be a winner until he learns to control his emotional side.

I’m just curious to how this guy who wrote this article knows that “recently” McDaniels and Xanders watched tapes of last season and undoubtedly poured over Quinn’s dimantling of the Bronco’s defense. That’s pretty insightful especially when there were quite a few other QBs who dismantled Denver’s defense. This article, the sources, the whole thing reeks of some wannabe trying to start, or expand an idiotic rumor. There would be total anarchy in Denver if this were to happen and Bowlen knows that and would NEVER let this deal happen. Jay was picked to be the franchise QB. No rookie headcoach or rookie GM is going to trade away a franchise QB, Probowl QB in his second full season, without the owner’s consent, and after the way the Denver fans responded to the “proposed” Cassel deal, there’s no way Bowlen would dare get rid of Cutler. I think Cutler got shafted but he does need to grow some thick skin.
Brady Quinn will be an excellent NFL QB, and shaun rogers is a premier nose tackle. This rumor trade is lopsided as of right now in Bronco’s favor. Bronco’s should give Cutler and their Number 1 draft pick for these two Browns studs.
A better deal and more legitimate!!!! derek anderson and shaun rogers trade for Jay Cutler and a third round pick.
[...] Unnamed sources are cited are BroncosFreaks.com [...]
I think Brady Quinn might be a good QB, but he hasn’t shown a thing yet. No one is sold on Quinn yet and Rogers is great, but not worth a franchise/probowl/4500 yrd Quarterback, not even close. I think Cutler needs to grow up some, but there’s not a chance in hell that I would pull this trade. The only one’s who truly think this deal is lopsided toward the Bronco’s are the Brown’s fans. I wouldn’t even pull this trade if it was just Cutler for Quinn/Rogers/1st Rd Pick. You just do NOT get rid of a QB who has already proven himself in the NFL for someone who hasn’t. Denver has gone through enough QBs, just like Cleveland (since Kosar).
